Winter Safety (Fire Hydrants)

Posted on March 6, 2018

In the event of a fire emergency during the winter, could firefighters find the hydrant near your home? Is nearest hydrant buried under snow? The Pearl River Fire Department would like if residents could “adopt a fire hydrant” near there home and keep snow away from it during the winter season. This will ensure hydrants are readily visible for firefighters, which will greatly speed the response time in case of an emergency. Residents who have hydrants nearby are asked to clear enough snow around a hydrant so that it is visible from the street.

                       Uncovered Hydrant                                 VS                                 Covered Hydrant

 Your help is greatly appreciated!
