Passing Of FF. John Poloni

John Poloni passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2017 surrounded by his children. He was born in Nogare, Italy on April 10, 1934 to Guerrino and Maria Poloni. John married Vera Germano in Candelo, Italy on August 29, 1954. He came to Pearl River to start his life with Vera in March, 1955.



John was a mason and with his partner, KarlHeino Bohn owned Germano and Son, Inc., a company started by his father-in-law, Silvio Germano in the 1940's. John was a 60 year member of Pearl River Hook and Ladder Company and an Honorary Member of Excelsior Engine Company. He was a simple, quiet man whose greatest pride was his family, his firehouse and his devotion to his community. He was affectionately known as "The Mayor." To his children he was, Dad and Daddy, to his friends he was John or Johnny, to his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and everyone else he was their Nonno. 



He is survived by his daughter, Donna Fetchik, his son, Leonard Poloni, his grandchildren, Nicholas D'Ambroso (Megan), Joseph Poloni (Tara), Gina Winston (John), Daniel Fetchik (Prisilla), Thomas Poloni (Lauren) and Krystina Poloni. He is also survived by 10 Great-Grandchildren, Jayla Freeman, Serenity Fetchik, Andrew D'Ambroso, Ryan Poloni, Taylor Poloni, Jonathan D'Ambroso, Lucas Cabrera, Mason Poloni, McKenna Winston and Tessa D'Ambroso, He is predeceased by his wife, Vera 9/21/1998, his nephew, Andre D'Ambroso 2/24/1994, his son-in-law, Robert Fetchik 3/4/2008 and his daughter-in-law, Donna Lope-Poloni 1/16/2008. "He was always kind to everyone and always wanted the best for his family, friends and everyone. He always put other people first before himself." (Serenity Vera Fetchik) 



The wake will be at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Pearl River, NY, Monday January 1 and Tuesday January 2, 2018 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am on Wednesday January 3, 2018 at St. Margaret of Antioch Church in Pearl River. Burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. He will always be remembered as father, son, grandpa, friend, husband, firefighter and great grandfather.
