At Approximately 14:30, the Pearl River Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire at 69 Arlene Court. The fire was contained within the wall with slight extension in to a living area. All units were back in service by 16:00.
Hook and Ladder is pleased to announce the results of the recent Chauffeurs Class of 2012. FF Patrick Shand Jr, FF Charlie Peterson and 2nd Lt. Shaun Ruocco have passed the 200 hour course of instruction given by the Chauffeur Officers. The students had to pass both a written and day long practical exam. Congratulations!
At approximately 11:40 PM, the Nanuet Fire Department requested an additional Engine from Pearl River to the scene of a working fire. Upon arrival, Pearl River was designated as the FAST (Firefighter Assist and Search Team). The main body of fire was quickly brought under control by Nanuet. All units returned to normal service by 1:45 AM.
At approximately 9:00 A.M. the Pearl River Fire Department was alerted to a simulated explosion within the Pfizer complex. Although this was a drill the Pearl River Fire Department conducted a life-like reproduction of the incident. The Nanuet, South Spring Valley, Spring Valley, and Montvale Fire Departments were also involved in this large-scale mutual aid drill.

At approximately 16:55 the Pearl River Fire Department was dispatched for a two car MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Blue Hill Road South. While en-route to the incident 44-Control (Rockland County’s Fire Dispatch) advised 12-1 (Chief O’Brien) that the two cars are now on fire. The volunteers extinguished the two cars and the department was back in normal service in less then an hour. One Driver was transported by Pearl River EMS to Nyack Hospital with minor injuries.
On July 28th, the Pearl River Fire Department participated in a mutual aid drill at the old children’s psychiatric facility in Orangeburg. The Drill was hosted by the Orangeburg Fire Department and included the Sparkill-Palisades and Pearl River Fire Departments. The drill topic was truck company operations.
At 10:55 A.M the Spring Valley Fire Department requested Pearl River’s F.A.S.T. (Firefighter Assist & Search Team) to the scene of a working apartment fire at 500 E. Funston Street. Ten volunteers responded to the fire under the command of Assistant Chief Sampath (12-2). Upon arrival Pearl River’s crew was put to work extinguishing the fire. Pearl River’s firefighters were on scene and operating for about three hours.
Pearl River Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 Chauffeur Training. Every year a few of our members train to become chauffeurs. Chauffeur training consists of approximately 300 hours of intensive hands on skills training. Today's focus was water supply and aerial master stream operations.
Probationary Drill was held at the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona New York. Fourteen Firefighters attended the live fire training. The drill topic was basic engine company and truck company operations. Three of our members were interviewed by the Journal News for an article about recruitment of new volunteers.
